EDITORIAL FASHION

Mood Board
I am planning to incorporate more advance SFX into my look for editorial fashion, as on a shoot like this the artist would be allowed more time in order to create a dynamic and detailed look. The look would also only have to be applied to one model rather than a whole catwalk of models. This allows the designer to focus specifically on creating one look for camera.

CONCEPT
I really want this look to have a futuristic alien feel to it. I will create the alienesque look using a bald cap to completely cover the hair. I will then build up texture and depth using gelatin. Currently so many people desire to have darken skin than what they naturally have. My concept will be that in the future people will have to redesire to be as pale as possible. I want to add a luminosity to the skin using silver liquid metal and beguile pigment which reflects the light beautifully.

Hair Sketch Ideas

My project is coming to an end and its about time I got some strong designs down! I am still finding it hard to think of how I can incorporate SFX within a high fashion look, without making it look to science fiction. I have practiced the application of a bald cap a few times during this project and I feel this should be used to my advantage when shooting. The model I have chosen for my fist 'Brave New World' image is a girl currently living in Winchester who originates from the middle east. Her hair is incredibly think and long and I still want to show some of this within the image.
Using half a bald cap I will cover half her head leaving the rest of her hair falling out of the back, I want it to appear as if in the future ladies would shave the front of their hair line in order to lay defined patterns over the top (using the rest of their hair). Plaiting pieces of crepe hair I will create a design on top of the cap. I will then use wire to create a structured piece across and upwards.

HAIR PIECE EXPERIMENT
The night before my shoot I decided to experiment and see if I could make a head piece like in my design, after struggling for a long time to finalize my design I did not have enough time to create one to the standard I would have like. After spending hours fiddling around with extensions, wire and a glue gun I decided it just wasn't going to work. If I had more time to develop this project I would have focused more on making different hair pieces and this is something I want to experiment further in the future.

Initial idea 2
(CHOSEN DESIGN FOR LOOK 1)

I feel this design will look classic and not to over complicated. Using a combination of a half bald cap, fullers earth, gelatin and gold leaf I will create a fashion focused look suitable to be produced for a catwalk show. Makeup and hair for the catwalk needs to be simple yet still create a strong impact.
Gold has been a key theme through out the development of this project and using gold leaf will add a sense of luxury and  expense to the look.

CONCEPT
In the future we may take body adornment to a new level. Coating our skin in real gold to enhance beauty and illustrate our wealth and power.

STYLING
Styling is a key element within this fashion catwalk focused image. I had picked out a variety of different statement jewelry to layer up onto the model. I feel this will really extenuate the gold within the SFX makeup look I produce, tying the whole tribal theme together. The necklace have an authentic feel to them with a modern twist.

Keiron LeVine
Accessories

A few days before our project was coming to an end we had another very exciting visit for artist Keiron LeVine. This time we had the opportunity to see more of his own work. After seeing all his research and images from his travels around the world it was inspiration to see the pieces he has made using items he had collected and I got a real sense of the creative journey he takes to produce these beautiful accessories.
Unfortunately I was unable to get a model to come in during the lesson he was with us all I was still able to inspiration and ideas from the things he brought in.

SFX DRAWING

Drawing is a key part to my design process. I feel that drawing an image helps me to incorporate a few different ideas grasped from other image that I use as inspiration. If I had more time I would have loved to makeup a full head prosthetic to completely alter the shape and size of the head.  Some tribes used to believe that a large head was a sign of beauty and knowledge. The more important somebody was the larger their head would be. From a young age they would wrap their skull in order to create an elongated shape. Skull binding is now band, although tribes still recreate the illusion of a larger head used elaborate hair styles.

This drawing combines inspiration from skull binding and a futuristic feel. The smooth texture could be created using latex sheets, built up around the head. Using a bald cap underneath would give the illusion of a completely hair free head. This would allow the prosthetic piece to look more authentic.
